Annie's Day in Court

Friday the 23rd was the day of Annie's readoption hearing at the Chippewa County Courthouse. Everything went smoothly and our adoption is now official in the US! Annie will have a new birth certificate issued and is eligible for a social security number. She is technically a US citizen now but there is no way to prove it without the Certificate of Citizenship from USCIS, which costs about $500 to obtain. So, we'll work on getting that a little bit down the road.

We had Isaacson for a judge and he basically asked us what led us to adopt in the first place and why we wanted to adopt Anne. Matt told him our story and I told him about the orphan crisis in Ethiopia. When he asked me why I wanted to adopt Anne I just blurted out, "Well, because I'm madly in love with her." The judge hears all juvenile cases and said that it is cases like ours that make his job worth it. That was nice of him to say.

After we passed court, the three of us went to Cancun for lunch to celebrate and Annie colored her first picture (and ate her first crayons).
