Annie, the Big (or little?) Sister

It seems like a good time to announce that we have decided to start the process of finding our next child in Ethiopia! We are so thankful for the gift of our daughter and are overjoyed to be going on this journey again.

Our lives were forever changed by our first trip to Ethiopia. What we saw, felt, and experienced has settled into our souls and God has changed us through it. Our hearts are in Ethiopia. I feel like we have a foot in two countries. We keep in close contact with three very dear friends living in Addis Ababa and our love for the country, people, culture, and her precious orphans grows continually.

What about biological children? There are options open to us in pursuing a pregnancy but we honestly don't have a desire for it. We feel strongly that our children are in Ethiopia. How many? We don't know. It's always exciting to find out what God has planned. Whether adopted or biological, children are a blessing - we will greet with joy whichever the Lord gives, but our passion is in adoption right now.

We aren't sure how long it will take this time as we have just started to save our pennies. I've been doing customer service from home after Annie goes to bed some nights to earn a little extra money. We are planning some fundraisers and will be selling coffee again, so I will keep you posted if you are interested.

It is amazing how God knits families together. I can't put into words what Annie means to us. My mom put it well when we were talking about how well Anne has adjusted. She said, "She's your daughter. She is one of us. She's flesh and blood." And then she stopped for a second and said, "Well, technically she doesn't have the same flesh and blood but it feels that way in our hearts." We are excited to meet our next little one and to see how God blends all of us together!

We're also continually humbled by the heart-wrenching circumstances and pain that surround adoption and always want to be mindful of the suffering that inevitably occurs in some form for a child to have been placed in an orphanage. For us it is to experience the fullness of joy and sorrow at once.

Thank you for your prayers. God bless.
