A Disappointing Day

Today was a tough day. We heard from our agency director this morning and there is a "hiccup" in our process. Apparently, the day that we passed court the judge ruled that one of the documents prepared by the Ethiopian government was illegible and needed to be redone and reviewed at a later date (today was the first we heard of this). The date scheduled for the judge to review it was December 27th, which was a Sunday. The court was closed that day, but technically, we missed our hearing. Therefore, we have to wait for the judge to review the document in his spare time. This could take weeks or months. We just have to wait. Even if the judge approved everything this week, it is unlikely that we would be able to travel until the end of February or beginning of March. We are heartbroken. It is so hard to miss out on so much of her life.

Below are some pictures of Anne from the end of November that we received today. It looks like they've cut her hair. She is such a pretty girl.

Even though today was a tear-filled day for me, I know that Christ rules over all things, including illegible paperwork and judges' spare time. "The Lord is at hand; do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus" (Philippians 4:5-7). We are requesting that He move mountains.

  1. Oh Matt and Brooke,

My heart breaks with you about this news. I am praying for you, for strength, courage, and grace. I am also praying that God too will move mountains and that you will be able to get Annie soon. Love you both.

  2. I'm so sorry to hear of this disappointing news. She is beautiful. The good news is she is your baby and she will be in your arms one day, for now she is in your heart. Hang in there, you'll have Anne to love in person soon. Be patient, trust in Him, Love, Francene
